How To Craft a Last Minute Creepy Room for Halloween in Five Easy Steps
Crafting the perfectly spooky space doesn’t always mean jack-o-lanterns and witches. There are a few steps to creating an eerie feeling room. Below I teach you How To Craft a Last Minute Creepy Room for Halloween in Five Easy Steps.
1. Neutralize your room! Take a look around and clear away any bright colors. Put away color pop accents and drape brightly colored upholstery in white, grey or black sheets or old curtains. Cover bright and happy looking lighting and lamp shades with creepy gauze cloth.
2. Scan your home for creepy things—look through your cupboards for vessels in neutral tones to replace the colorful pops you have put away. Clear class hurricanes, black or grey vases, gold, silver and brown urns, bowls and decanters are perfect—if they are vintage, that’s even better! Do you have any old toys or dolls, statues or old black and white photos?

Once you have your space adorned in neutrals and you have found some vessels and objects to play with, now you can decide which horizontal surfaces you will stage your scene on. Living room mantles and coffee tables, pianos, dining and kitchen table center pieces, entry consoles and kitchen counters are all terrifyingly grand places. Group items together and surrounded in a fabric—surround taller objects by shorter items to create a layered feel.
4. Spin your web and grow some moss! Once your scene is set you can string cobwebs on it to make it look scary. Scatter moss or dried leaves around to create the feeling of age and the passing of time.
5. Give props to highest impact areas. Halloween props such as pumpkins, skeletons, scary clowns, black cats, ghosts and witches can be used sparingly as props to finish an area and give it real creepy flare. It’s not necessary to use props in all areas but consider doing so in a few areas of the home.
